- An original or certified copy of a primary identification document.
- Proof of your Social Security number. The name must match the name that will appear on your license.
- Two proofs of your Florida address in your name.
- If your name changed: a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order.
If you are applying under the Cuban Adjustment Act (pending I-485), also review the entry documents, I-797 receipt for your I-485, proof of Cuban nationality, and identity document listed in the complete checklist.
Important: a passport alone, or a passport together with the biometrics appointment notice for your permanent residence application, is not enough to obtain a license.

For the driving exam, you must bring a valid Florida learner’s permit. We provide the vehicle.
Here's what to expect on exam day:
- Live preparation class (~2½ hours) — covers road signs, traffic laws, and safe driving practices
- Exam simulator practice — puts into practice everything you learned in class
- Knowledge exam (1 hour) — most students finish much faster!

The knowledge exam can only be taken in English. However, our preparation class is taught in both English and Spanish, and our website and study materials are fully available in both languages to help you prepare. If you have any further questions, please contact our office at (305) 364-5676.
We're open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The office is closed on Sundays, though our live online Zoom classes run on select Sundays. Driving exam appointments start at 9:00 AM on weekdays and 8:00 AM on Saturdays.

- If you took the exam with us the first time, retaking it is completely free (both knowledge and driving exams)
- State rules limit attempts through authorized third-party testing providers
- Different attempt limits may apply at the Tax Collector's office; contact us before scheduling to confirm eligibility

¿Puedo sacar la licencia solo con el pasaporte y la cita de huellas de la residencia?
No. Además necesita prueba de cómo entró al país (I-94 o prueba de parole), el recibo de su I-485 pendiente, un documento de identidad válido, su Seguro Social y dos pruebas de dirección. Vea la lista completa arriba.
Mi permiso de trabajo está vencido. ¿Me sirve?
Puede servirle como identificación, siempre que traiga además documentos válidos que demuestren su presencia legal. El permiso vencido, por sí solo, no es suficiente.
¿Me entregan la licencia el mismo día?
Si usted no es ciudadano y es su primera licencia de la Florida, lo normal es que reciba un permiso temporal de papel por 60 días y que la licencia le llegue por correo después de la verificación.
¿Tengo que cambiar mi licencia por el nuevo diseño?
No. Desde el 30 de septiembre de 2026 la Florida emite licencias con un nuevo diseño, pero su licencia actual sigue siendo válida hasta que venza. Recibirá el nuevo diseño cuando renueve o reemplace su licencia.
