What Is the 4-Hour TLSAE Course?
The 4-Hour TLSAE course is a Florida driver education requirement created for first-time licensing situations. Its purpose is to teach new drivers the rules of the road, the risks of impaired driving, and the safety knowledge needed before getting licensed in Florida.
Who Needs This Course?
This course is generally required for applicants 18 and older who have never held a driver license from any other state, country, or jurisdiction before applying for a Florida license. In some school-based cases, a DELAP course may satisfy the requirement instead. Florida also says that drivers under 21 who receive a suspension for driving with a BAL of .02 to .05 must complete TLSAE to reinstate a hardship license. For most first-time drivers under 18, Florida now uses the DETS course instead.
